No Coding

To work on KHub+, Content Creators do not require a technical background.  No coding is required.  Coding is the job for programmers or engineers, but not for content creators.  In a content management system, content is what that's most important, not the technology.

Yet, KHub+ still make it possible for content creators to prepare their content in many featured styles, format and structure with a short non-technical training.

Open-Source Technology

KHub+ is built based on an open-source technology which is world-famous with a history of around 20 years.  It is a content management system mainly used for enterprise solutions.  It is very popular among the websites or systems in government or academics.

Advantages of an open-source technology include:

  • Many free modules available without the need for re-development which dramatically reduce cost and time
  • Mature open-source technology with 20 years of history
  • Good compatibility and integrations with other web resources

Current KHub+ compose of 250~300 modules.  Such a projects require years to complete if it is going to be developed from fresh.

Low Cost but Powerful Server

KHub+ is built on Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP (LAMP) environment.  Alternatively, LEMP is also supported.  All such very popular and well-proven environment are based on open-source technology, and all are free.  To setup the KHub+ system, a hosting server with such an environment is needed but the cost is minimal.

There are many choices of servers depending on the choice of power & capacity.  For in-house hosting, a local in-house server can be used.  A small computer running at home can also be an option.  For cloud-based hosting, there are many cloud services available.  Shared hosting, VPS and cloud computing are all viable options.

Today, cloud-based hosting is a good and justifiable option to consider.

 

Integrations

With the many web-based resources available in the market, it is not difficult to find good tools and resources and integrate to the system.  The cost is much lower than customization or development, and yet they are contually enhancing.  Following are some examples:

Jotform A versatile and user-friendly Online Form Builder well recognized by developers capable of handing forms creation, surveys, data collections, reports, etc.  It integrates with many 3rd party services such as PayPal, Striipe, Google Sheets, Dropbox, etc.

Mobile First Support

Pieces and sections of information in the system can be configured either:

Default By default, KHub+ is a responsive site.  That means that the pieces and sections of the pages will automatically adjust to desktop or mobile devices to fit the content
Desktop Only or
Mobile Only		 Each piece or section in a page can be separately configured as desktop or mobile only, so that it will only appear on desktop, or only appear on mobile, based on the common standards in device screen display width

Responsiveness is good enough in most cases.  However, between desktop and mobile, there is still a fundamental difference - the landscape and portrait display.  For best fitting the needs of mobile devices, this feature can fully satisfy such needs.  Content creators can create their own design without the need of support from IT, simply by defining which block of information be desktop only or mobile only.  During design they still exist on the same page with the same URL.  Readers will see either only the desktop or only the mobile view when they reach the page.

With this feature, non-technical content creators can also design a mobile only site, and create their own web-apps withouit the need of technical knowledge.

Bootstrap Support

Bootstrap is a web technology which is the most popular HTML/CSS framework in the market today after 10+ years.  It has been evolved to ver 6 currently, widely supported by most technologies and websites, and is very mature.  KHub+ is also based on this bootstrap framework, therefore it is also compatible with most bootstrap features.  For content creators who are familiar with the bootstrap framework, they can apply it to create their content too.  As a result, it will be even more flexible.  But of course, it requires coding and the appropriate technical knowledge background.

Automated Backup

In most cases, automatic backup can be setup for data protection for the entire installation with minimal additional costs.
